About the International Program

The International Program of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) works with colleagues from around the world to find evidence-based solutions to the public health problems of drug use, addiction, and drug-related HIV/AIDS. We build partnerships with countries, organizations, and individual researchers to promote new research initiatives, build international research capacity, and disseminate knowledge. NIDA supports the International Program mission because the Institute recognizes that addiction knows no borders, and that no country can solve the problem by acting alone.

The NIDA International Program has identified several priority research topics, including basic research on the neuroscience and biology of drugs as well as epidemiology, intervention, and implementation research.

About the NIDA International Forum

The NIDA International Forum fosters international cooperative research and the exchange of scientific information by substance use researchers. Held each June in conjunction with the annual scientific meeting of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD), the Forum highlights the range and quality of substance use and addiction research conducted around the world.

The Forum features a research symposium, a poster session, and network-building activities highlighting NIDA-supported and other international research on substance use. This unique scientific meeting allows participants to network with talented colleagues, learn about substance use and addiction research in other countries, and discuss NIDA-supported fellowships and other programs that can support international collaborations.
