About

Office of the Director is NIA’s central leadership office. It provides overall scientific, executive, and administrative direction for the Institute and helps coordinate NIA’s mission to support research on aging, the health and well-being of older adults, and diseases and conditions associated with aging, including Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

At a high level, the Office of the Director sets strategic direction and priorities, coordinates activities across NIA’s scientific divisions and offices, advises NIA leadership on policy and programmatic matters, and represents the Institute in interactions with NIH, HHS, Congress, researchers, partner organizations, and other stakeholders. It also supports cross-cutting functions and initiatives that span multiple parts of NIA rather than belonging to a single research division.
