Undiagnosed Diseases Network

The Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN) is an NIH-supported research program that brings together clinical and research experts from across the United States to help diagnose and understand previously undiagnosed diseases.

Biomarkers

The NINDS biomarker program is focused on improving the quality and efficiency of neurotherapeutic clinical research toward Phase II and beyond by supporting rigorous biomarker validation.

Health Disparities

The NINDS supports a wide variety of health disparities-related programs. Learn more about what these grantees are doing across the Nation.

Neural Engineering

Neural engineering spans early concept generation, technology development/optimization, translational studies and clinical trials.

Neuroethics

The NINDS neuroethics program supports neuroethics-related research, proactively addresses ethical questions that arise from NINDS research, and provides neuroethics resources.

Stem Cell

Stem cell research-related information, research highlights, and resources in this rapidly-developing area of research.

Neural Exposome

The neural exposome is the integrated compilation of all physical, chemical, biological, and (psycho)social influences that affect nervous system health and disease.

Basic Neuroscience

NINDS-supported research aimed at understanding the structure and function of the nervous system.

Clinical Research

NINDS Division of Clinical Research exists to provide support for all NINDS extramurally-funded clinical studies and trials.

Translational Research

NINDS Office of Translational Research mission is to accelerate the preclinical discovery and development of new therapeutic interventions for neurological disorders.

Labs at NINDS

Today investigators in the NINDS intramural program conduct research in the basic, translational, and clinical neurosciences at the NINDS Bethesda, Maryland, laboratories. Interests cover a broad range of neuroscience research including molecular biophysics, synapses and circuits, neuronal development, integrative neuroscience, brain imaging, neurological disorders, and stroke.

Neuroscience at NIH

The NIH is home to one of the largest neuroscience research centers in the world. Over 150 laboratories, originating from eleven different Institutes, conduct research in the basic, translational, and clinical neurosciences.

Intramural Research Programs at NIH

The Intramural Research Program (IRP) is the internal research program of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), known for its synergistic approach to biomedical science.

Blueprint

The NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research is a cooperative effort among the 15 NIH Institutes, Centers and Offices that support neuroscience research to identify cross-cutting areas of research and confront challenges too large for any single Institute or Center.

CounterACT

Trans-NIH translational research program supporting basic, translational, and clinical research aimed at the discovery or identification of better therapeutic medical countermeasures and/or diagnostic technologies against chemical threat agents.

ICARE

As the primary NIH Institute for epilepsy research, NINDS leads the Interagency Collaborative to Advance Research in Epilepsy working group, with broad representation from the NIH, other Federal agencies, and the research and patient advocacy communities.

Interagency Research Coordinating Committees

Federal advisory committees created by the Department of Health and Human Services to enhance research efforts and promote collaboration across the government.

The National Plan to End Parkinson’s

The National Plan to End Parkinson’s was established in 2024 to prevent, diagnose, treat, and ultimately cure Parkinson’s and related disorders. NINDS will co-lead the Advisory Council, helping guide the plan and bring together experts and communities to shape its future.
