Guoying Liu, Ph.D., is the acting Associate Director for NIBIB's Extramural Science Program, overseeing a broad spectrum of program divisions in biomedical imaging, bioengineering, informatics, training, and small business. Previously, she was Director of the NIBIB Division of Applied Science and Technology (Biomedical Imaging).
Prior to joining NIBIB, Dr. Liu was a Program Director in the Cancer Imaging Program at the National Cancer Institute. She previously held tenure-track faculty positions at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Georgetown University, where she led a research laboratory focused on developing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques to map neuronal activity and connectivity.
Dr. Liu earned her Ph.D. in physical chemistry and completed postdoctoral training in MRI. She is a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).
She has played key leadership roles in multiple trans-NIH initiatives, including the Human Connectome Project; the BRAIN Initiative; the Quantitative Imaging Biomarkers Alliance; the Human Placenta Project; the HEAL Initiative Myofascial Pain Imaging Program; and the Medical Imaging and Data Resource Center. She has also represented NIBIB on numerous trans-NIH and interagency committees and working groups.
