The NIAID 2026-2030 Strategic Plan
NIAID's 2026-2030 Strategic Plan sets our course for the next five years, reaffirming our mission to develop patient-centered strategies grounded in rigorous research that safeguard and improve health. The plan envisions a more integrated, person-centered approach to infectious and immune-mediated diseases, anchored in a deeper understanding of human immunology. Priorities include strengthening protective immune responses to prevent disease and support cures, mitigating harmful immune responses in allergies and autoimmune conditions, and applying microbiome insights to new host-directed therapies. By expanding the scope of immunology and infectious disease research, NIAID aims to generate the knowledge needed to reduce morbidity and mortality from pressing public health challenges.
