The Mitochondria Interest Group (MIG) is an Inter-Institute Interest Group at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), with members worldwide! MIG is concerned with all aspects of the mitochondrion and diseases in which the mitochondrion is involved. The MIG is concerned with all aspects of mitochondria, from the mitochondrial genome to the nuclear genome and all the proteins involved.

Our listserv has 1300+ mitochondrial researchers from around the world. The list serves as a conduit for questions and answers about research protocols, announcements related to NIH, classes, conferences, job opportunities-both post-doc and faculty.

We periodically conduct Mitochondrial Symposia at NIH, frequently in conjunction with and to accentuate our Wednesday Afternoon Lecture Nominee’s WALs lecture. Nearly all our activities are videocast and archived on the NIH Videocast site (the NIH site’s first videocast is of our first meeting back in the 90’s).

We also have periodic meetings on campus highlighting talks from both NIH and extramural researchers on new and important mitochondrial research findings. Our seminars have promulgated productive collaborations between NIH researchers, and between NIHers and extramural scientists.
