Guidance on submitting trainees' NIH grants
This guidance is intended to help NIH Directors in the Intramural Research Program who are responsible for trainee grant submission.
While there are many steps involved in submitting an NIH grant (typically a K99 or K22 for NIH intramural trainees, although F grants are possible in some cases as well) from an Institute or Center on behalf of a trainee, the process should begin with the trainee contacting both the Training Director and Program Officer as early as possible in order to ensure eligibility of the trainee and suitability of the proposal. Knowing that a trainee from your Institute or Center is planning to submit an NIH grant allows the Training Director to ensure that all of the necessary pieces, with the major ones outlined below, are in place to allow for a smooth submission process.
In addition to this guidance, the NIH Office of Intramural Training and Education (OITE) has a general information page for trainees considering submitting an NIH grant.
