A commemorative meeting was held September 15-16, 2016, at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to honor Michael Potter’s (1924-2013) foresight into using plasmacytoma models to obtain homogeneous immunoglobulins for analyses of protein structure, generation of diversity, and genome organization. The meeting included some of the major players that participated in the 9 workshops Potter organized from 1969-1979. These workshops were seminal in understanding how antibody diversity is generated, and accelerated the pace to cloning the first immunoglobulin genes. Many of the attendees are pictured below.
