About the Care Summit
The Dementia Care and Caregiving Research Summit will be held virtually on March 17-19, 2026. Details on how to register for the Care Summit are coming early in 2026.
The Care Summit offers a vital opportunity for participants to reflect on the progress we have made in dementia care and caregiving research since our last Care Summit in 2023, highlight innovative and promising research, identify remaining unmet research needs, and address the persistent and emerging needs of people living with dementia, their care partners, and the communities and health systems that support them. We look forward to engaging with Summit participants as we discuss current science and identify research gaps.

Planning Progress
Summit co-chairs Dr. Julie Bynum and Dr. Joseph Gaugler lead the planning efforts with our NIA team. They are gathering input through the virtual Pre-Summit Listening Session on December 10, 2025 ( register to attend ).
The 2026 Summit will cover topics including:
- Economic impacts of dementia
- Individual and community partnerships for people living with dementia
- Dementia care and caregiving interventions: advancing rigorous intervention development
- Dementia care models and care coordination strategies across systems and states
- Advances in AD/ADRD data infrastructure to support dementia care and caregiving research
- Sharing lived experiences from people living with dementia, care partners, and family and community members
We also plan to hold an Early Career Investigator event featuring staff from the NIA Training Office during the Care Summit.
Post-Summit Listening Session
A Post-Summit Listening Session will be held at the end of day three of the Care Summit. We set aside this time for participants to reflect on the topics and share questions and comments. Registration for these events will be posted on the Summit website once available.
