Did you know that valuable data and biosamples from aging studies may help accelerate your current investigations? To assist, NIA continues to expand its Aging Research Biobank , a state-of-the-art inventory of biological specimens and phenotypic, clinical, and imaging data from decades of our institute’s funded studies. The biobank is your key to a deep vault of data and millions of biosamples that are valuable for exploring multiple aging science topics.
If you’re looking to enhance the pace of your research and enrich the depth of your data, check out this biobank video on how to get started.
A growing collection of aging science biosamples and data
The biobank continues to evolve and today includes data and biospecimens from 10 NIA-funded projects, including well-known clinical trials, epidemiological studies, and more, such as:
- Comprehensive Assessment of the Long-term Effects of Reducing Intake of Energy Study (CALERIE)
- Study of Women’s Health Across the Nation (SWAN)
Keep an eye on the biobank website for four new study collections coming soon!
This vast collection, including samples and data from diverse populations of study participants, can be used to investigate a wide range of topics, including:
- Biomarkers
- Calorie restriction
- Cognitive decline
- Falls prevention
- Inflammation
- Lifestyle interventions
- Longevity
- Osteoarthritis
- Women’s health
Available for aging-focused scientists worldwide
Scientists worldwide can use the biobank, and it’s easy to register and get started. Visit agingresearchbiobank.nia.nih.gov to sign up and begin requesting access to samples and data. To submit a request , you must provide:
- Your research protocol
- Institutional Review Board approval or waiver for the study
- Your curriculum vitae
- Proof of NIH funding if you’re requesting a biospecimen
We can help with navigating NIH’s Data Sharing Policy
If you’re an NIA-funded scientist, you may also be interested in submitting your data and specimens to the biobank to comply with the NIH Data Sharing Policy. We can help you navigate the data management and sharing process safely and efficiently.
