The Washington University School of Medicine Knight Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center's “African American Participation in Alzheimer Disease Research: Effective Strategies” Workshop convened to address research participation. This article discusses the specific limitation that Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia research programs have primarily been limited to non-Hispanic white persons. The report provides specific recommendations to increase research participation and retention of African Americans in research, including actionable next steps.
