Effect of Study Partner on the Conduct of Alzheimer Disease Clinical Trials

The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of study partner types and measure how these types associate with participant-related outcome measures. Retrospective analyses were conducted of six Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study randomized clinical trials. Study partners were categorized as spouse, adult child, or other. According to the analyses, people with nonspousal caregivers less frequently participate in Alzheimer’s disease dementia trials. The study authors concluded that increased enrollment of Alzheimer’s disease participants with nonspousal caregivers may require additional recruitment and retention strategies.
