Design Considerations for Embedded Pragmatic Clinical Trials of Advance Care Planning Interventions for Persons Living With Dementia

While many trials have established that advance care planning practices can improve end-of-life care, these practices are underutilized in the clinic. This review describes a framework for the construction of embedded pragmatic clinical trials of advance care planning for people living with dementia. The authors suggest that this type of trial may facilitate the uptake of evidence-based advance care planning practices into existing health care.
