Summary dbGaP Statistics

Under the Genomic Data Sharing (GDS) Policy and its predecessor, the Policy for Sharing of Data Obtained in NIH Supported or Conducted Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS), NIH-funded investigators are expected to submit human genomic data from studies that fall within the scope of these Policies to the NIH database of Genotypes and Phenotypes ( dbGaP ) or other relevant NIH-designated data repositories such as Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), Sequence Read Archive (SRA), or the Cancer Genomics Hub.

NIH has received human data submissions primarily from academic institutions (70%), with additional contributions from non-academic research or non-profit organizations (22%) as well as federal research agencies and state health departments (8%). Seventeen NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) have sponsored dbGaP study submissions.
