More early-career scientists are needed to combat global chronic diseases according to two former Fogarty trainees. In the Jul / Aug 2009 Global Health Matters article New career trajectories: studying disease overseas , Drs. Gerald Bloomfield and Mark Huffman, cardiologists funded through the Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholars and Fellows program , encourage their cardiology colleagues and other specialists to apply for fellowships in developing countries.
The Fogarty scholars and fellows program supports mentored clinical research training for graduate-level U.S. students in the health professions. Participants train at top-ranked NIH-funded research centers in developing countries. The article provides information about other NIH funding opportunities and fellowships offered by nonprofits.
