NIH/PEPFAR Implementation Science Collaborations

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) have partnered to advance implementation science (IS) to achieve HIV pandemic control through capacity-strengthening initiatives that effectively address the HIV pandemic in PEPFAR-supported countries.

Partnership priorities include:

  • integrated HIV and noncommunicable disease care
  • youth interventions
  • long-acting prevention for key populations
  • HIV care retention

This partnership was facilitated by the Department of State’s Bureau of Global Health Security and Diplomacy (GHSD) and will be spearheaded by the Fogarty International Center, NIH’s hub for global health, in collaboration with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the NIH Office of AIDS Research (OAR) .

By working together, these organizations aim to advance research and implementation strategies that save lives and build stronger health systems in low- and middle-income countries.
