Description of Event
Globally, women continue to die daily from preventable causes related to pregnancy, many of which occur in low and middle-income countries. Moreover, maternal mortality rates have continued to increase in the Untied States compared to other developed countries due to pregnancy or childbirth-related causes. The most common causes contributing to pregnancy-related deaths in the US are associated with infection, sepsis, cardiovascular conditions, hypertensive disorders and hemorrhage.
This workshop is focused on determining technology gaps and opportunities and leveraging immune metrics to improve diagnosis and care of pregnant individuals. Technology developers, immunologists, maternal health researchers, and clinicians, will meet to discuss the role of immune metrics and function during healthy pregnancy and adverse pregnancy outcomes, identify technology gaps, determine research opportunities, and to provide insight into strategies for reducing maternal morbidity and mortality.
