F30: Individual Predoctoral Dual Degree Fellows Award from NIA

NIA supports two fellowships for dual-degree students doing research in the aging field. Students who attend an institution with an NIH-funded dual-degree program should apply to PA-25-426 . Students who attend an institution without an NIH-funded dual-degree program should apply to PA-25-425 . The application and awards are otherwise identical. Consult with program administrators at your institution to determine which funding mechanism is appropriate for you. All F30 recipients must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of award. View other NIA fellowships available to graduate students .

Important Dates

NIH NRSA fellowships are awarded in three cycles every year, as described below.

You must be no more than 48 months after matriculation into your initial, medical training program by the application due date. Should an initial submission be unsuccessful, you are permitted to resubmit a revised F30 application after the 48 month limit.

Award Duration

The F30 can support up to 6 years of predoctoral research training for dual degree students. This includes any time spent on an institutional T32 training grant. Speak to your graduate program director to determine whether you have been funded on a T32. At least 50% of the F30 award duration must be devoted to full-time PhD research.

NIA F30 Stipend and Funding Levels (2025)

Yearly award budgets are composed of stipends, tuition and fees, and institutional allowance, as described below. Updated information on budget levels can be found in NOT-OD-25-105.

Tuition and fees paid can be 60% of total institutional tuition, or $21,000, whichever is less.

Institutional Allowance may be used to cover expenses such as health insurance, research supplies, equipment, books, and travel to scientific meetings.

Childcare Costs
