Our grants

NIEHS provides federal funding in the form of grants to universities, other research organizations, and small businesses. These grants mostly support research studies, but also cooperative research and development projects.

Budget

NIEHS is funded through an annual appropriation by Congress. The NIEHS budget supports extensive extramural research and a dynamic intramural research program, including clinical research, to advance critical understanding of how environmental factors can influence human biology and disease. In addition, NIEHS funds education and training opportunities to foster the development of the next generation of environmental health scientists.
