The mission of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases is to support research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases; the training of basic and clinical scientists to carry out this research; and the dissemination of information on research progress in these diseases.

Budget
NIAMS research has led to new discoveries in our understanding of the normal function of bones, joints, muscles, and skin, and the diseases that affect them. The institute receives its budget from the U.S. Congress as part of the federal budget process through funding for the Department of Health and Human Services and the NIH.
