The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) leads nursing research to solve pressing health challenges and inform practice and policy, optimizing health for all.

Our organization

NINR believes that nursing research is the key to unlocking the power and potential of nursing by leveraging nursing’s strengths and unique knowledge and perspectives inherent to the discipline to the benefit of all people. NINR is organized into four main areas that report to the Office of the Director.

Advisory groups

National Advisory Council for Nursing Research (NACNR) advises on which grant applications should be approved and considered for funding, reviews the Institute's extramural programs and makes recommendations about its intramural research activities.

Our grants

Explore funding opportunities and notices to find funding best suited to your research needs. NINR offers competitive grants to individuals at all points in their career, from early investigators to established scientists. Our grants also support small businesses and research centers.

Budget

Each year, NINR and other Executive Branch agencies prepare a document called the Congressional Budget Justification in support of the President’s Budget Request. This document explains NINR’s mission, our research priorities, and our budget-related activities for the coming fiscal year (FY). The FY runs from October 1 until the following September 30.
