Overview

NIH established the NIH Pediatric Research Consortium (N-PeRC) in 2018 to improve child health research collaboration and coordination across the agency's 27 institutes and centers and offices. The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) is the lead NIH institute for the consortium.

NIH support for pediatric research currently totals more than $5.7 billion. N-PeRC strives to harmonize these activities across institutes, explore gaps in the overall pediatric research portfolio, and capitalize on existing resources, infrastructure, and expertise. The consortium does not receive funding or resources of its own and does not directly support research projects or initiatives. N-PeRC meets several times a year to discuss scientific opportunities and potential new areas of collaboration, including efforts to enhance research training for the next generation of pediatricians.
