Clinical Informatics and FHIR®

The ODSS Clinical Informatics (CI) unit develops and supports methodology and ethical practices that enable interoperability of datasets, including the exchange of clinical and healthcare information for research purposes. Specifically, the unit encourages the development and use of clinical data standards such as the Health Level Seven International (HL7
) Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR
) and common data elements (CDEs) through collaboration with NIH institutes, centers and offices.

ODSS Clinical Informatics

Clinical Informatics

The ODSS Clinical Informatics (CI) unit supports data science that underpins the development and implementation of data standards, and data exchange models between healthcare and real world data for research. Some of these activities include:

  • Improve access to and use of clinical and real-world data
  • Encourage the development and use of health IT standards for research such as Common Data Elements (CDE), FHIR®, TEFCA, and USCDI+
  • Share resources with the clinical informatics community
