Board of Scientific Counselors, National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) Intramural Research Program conducts biomedical health related research in its own laboratories and provides advice to the Center in carrying out its programs with respect to basic and applied research, training researchers in complementary and integrative health practices, and disseminating health information with respect to identifying, investigating and validating complementary and integrative treatments, diagnostic and prevention modalities, disciplines and systems. NCCIH's Division of Intramural Research focuses on basic, clinical, and translational research focusing on the role of the brain in perceiving, modifying, and managing pain. Research projects include investigating the role of the brain in pain processing and control, and how factors such as emotion, attention, environment, and genetics affect pain perception. In order to secure unbiased and objective evaluation of intramural research programs and of the work of the individual scientists, expert scientists from outside the National Institutes of Health (NIH) are invited to join the Board of Scientific Counselors, NCClH.
