Scientific Review Officer
This special emphasis panel reviews training and career development applications in the general area of endocrinology and metabolism, addressing molecular, cellular, translational, and higher order hormone-regulated processes in physiology and pathophysiology, including causes and treatments of non-malignant endocrine regulated pathologies. Applications from a broad spectrum of research related to all aspects of general endocrinology are considered.
Review Dates
Topics
- Physiological, pathophysiological, and molecular and cell biological processes involving hypothalamic, pituitary, pineal, thyroid, adrenal, gonadal, and pancreatic hormones. Invokes mammalian and non-mammalian systems, model organisms, and clinical studies.
- Signaling pathways focused on understanding steroid hormones and growth factors contribution to aging, normal growth regulation, and non-malignant pathologies development of endocrine responsive tissues e.g., breast, ovaries, endometrium. Studies on menopause will also be considered.
- Basic cell biology, development of genetic tools, and translational studies on Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and obesity.
- Insulin regulation, insulin resistance, and mechanisms of glucose transport.
- Pancreatic islet cell development, differentiation, Islet cell replication, and stem cell biology.
- Adipocyte development and function and communication with other endocrine organs and tissues.
- Endocrine regulation and inflammatory pathways modulating metabolic syndrome, obesity, and inflammatory pathways diabetes in aging.
